Meet the Candidates
We are a group of local people who live, work or play an active part in the life of our community in Hexham.

Hexham Town Council could be the beating heart of the community; could support the work of many of our community groups for affordable housing, for active travel and for environmental stewardship. It could work hard for the wellbeing and physical health of our residents and could future-proof our environment, support greener business & tourism and respect our historic town fabric. Let’s have a Hexham Town Council that instinctively asks “How can we help?”

I believe that we have a fantastic opportunity to shape a Hexham that benefits us all and brings us together as we emerge from Covid. I want a council at Hexham’s heart, that properly listens to groups who are working hard for Hexham and assists that work, promotes arts, sport, music and culture, and works for everyone’s welfare, especially those with quieter voices. We must all act boldly and creatively to the climate and ecological crisis by supporting greener business, tourism and transport.

I am standing with OpenHexham because they share my vision for a town council that is inclusive, innovative and open to change. A town council that isn't restricted by party politics or a lack of ambition. A town council that will listen and put the interests of the community first. We can do so much better - let's work together and achieve great things for Hexham!

I want a town council that is committed to open and friendly debate and one which consults with the community over decisions. I want a town council that is not hung up about procedures and tradition, but one that looks forward and embraces change, creativity and new ideas! I want a town council that takes the climate and ecological emergency seriously and cares about future generations. I am standing as a candidate because I want to help to create a shared vision for our community!

The town council can be the connecting point of all community activity. An independent council can do the best job ever by working solely for the people, not a party. I believe fully in OpenHexham’s set of values which, along with independence, also include integrity, positivity, creativity and respect. This group is more than 2 years in the making – we are ready for this, Hexham!

The Town Council needs new voices, drive and ambitious goals to take Hexham forward. Lockdown has had a big impact on people’s lives. However I’ve seen better community spirit within my neighbourhood where local people have banded together to help one another. There is a yearning for change as we come out of Covid 19 restrictions and the Council can help by facilitating some of these changes. Change can be brought about through better community engagement, listening to what people need and then finding ways to make that happen.

I am standing for Hexham Town Council as I believe a Councillor is there to serve their community, facilitate change and support local groups. A Councillor should tackle local issues, from climate emergency, sustainability and equality to local business or dog fouling. If you have never voted in local elections before or would just like a change, now is your chance to address the balance. Together we can develop Hexham’s potential and make it a wonderful place for everyone.

Hi. I’m Tom Sage. I’ve chosen to stand because I’d like to help make local politics more exciting, important and open to everyone in the Town. I’m motivated to help Hexham become an even more friendly, healthy, caring, fun and welcoming Town. I’m also keen to create more occasions for the town to celebrate together and to enjoy this precious life we all share. I believe that the things we have in common are far greater than any differences between us. Thanks x

Local politics should be relentlessly focussed on listening to residents of all ages and making decisions on a consultative basis. I firmly believe that Hexham Town Council can be a dynamic, progressive and forward-looking force for good in our town; Open Hexham’s group of independent candidates with a passion for Hexham and for grass-roots democracy is ready to make that change. Let’s do this!
